Buffalo Hills Elementary School expands to meet growing population

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) -- Buffalo Hills Elementary School only opened in 2012 but it is already expanding to allow for more kids to be admitted.

This project came in at $8.4 million. That is $300,000 under budget. It added 9 new classrooms, 196 new lockers, and expanded media center and playground.

The school can now hold a total of 450 students. Not all of the new space will be utilize just yet but they can be prepared for larger classes.

Officials say they are looking forward to the growth and that the improvements will benefit the kids.

“We have a wonderful new facility with open common spaces for small group interventions, one on one interventions,” Principal Chelsea Feusner said. “The common spaces offer an opportunity for classes to collaborate more frequently.”

Buffalo Hills is now one of the few a 3-unit schools in Kearney.
