HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - For many teens, prom is an experience they'll never forget.
However, expenses for dresses and shoes can add up quick and not everyone can afford that. The YWCA Adams County is offering up a solution.
So how does it work?
Right now there are close to 200 dresses on the racks or in storage. The gently used gowns are donated from community members.
When shopping, cosigners pick their price and there is a $30 charge along with that. The non-profit also has a seamstress on hand who can hem the dress, add bling or even add straps for also a reasonable price.
YWCA workers say it's a great experience for everyone who makes this happen.
"One mom came in and her daughters were in college. She was so appreciative that there was somewhere to go with all these dresses because they all had special memories...they were so happy to know they were going to go somewhere that would help benefit someone else," said Carissa Uhrmacher, the career services coordinator for YWCA Adams County.
The sale runs February 17 through the 25.
