Hastings Police chief finalist down to four

HASTINGS, Neb (KSNB) - We will likely know within a week the new Hastings Police chief. Four finalists have been selected and interviewed.

The finalists include one internal candidate. Captain Adam Story, a 22-year veteran of the Hastings Police force is among those receiving final consideration.

Another finalist is currently serving as a police chief. Stephen Monticelli is the chief in Harrisonburg, VA, a city of just over 50-thousand people with a police force of 106 sworn officers.

Other finalists are Glen Still, a lieutenant with the Fremont, NE police department and Jason Ott, a captain with the Liberal, KS police department.

Hastings mayor Corey Stutte says the new chief, who will replace Pete Kortum, could possibly be hired at a potential special city council meeting Monday.

Kortum has been police chief in Hastings for five years. He is retiring effective December 15.
