Hastings death unrelated to Tuesday fight

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - An autopsy shows that a Hastings man died Tuesday from a heart attack not related to a fight he had earlier in the day with another man.

Hastings Police say the autopsy showed that Stephen Cash, 72, died from natural causes related to a heart attack. Police say Cash got into a fight earlier in the day at his home with another man in a dispute about a bicycle. They say Cash suffered cuts and scrapes from the altercation, but they were not related to his death later in the day.

Police were called to the 200 block of North Bellevue around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday. Once on scene, officers tried to resuscitate the man, but were unsuccessful and the man was declared dead a short time later at the hospital.

Later that day, police arrested a Hastings man for third degree assault by mutual consent in connection with the fight he had with Cash. As of Thursday afternoon, that man had not been formally charged in Adams County court.
