Honoring military women both past and present at Salute to Women Warriors event

Salute to Women Warriors is an event that honors women of military service of all generations.

This year marks the fourth year for the annual banquet.

"Each year it has grown," said Ashley Allen, CCC Outreach Coordinator for the Hastings Campus. She said they expect to have around 150 participants at this year's gathering.

Community members, both men and women, are invited to attend the festivities taking place on March 16.

It will be held at Babel's Barn at 510 West Old Military Road in Wood River.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and a program will begin at 6 p.m. and a live band: Whiskey Bent, starts at 8 p.m.

The cost is $25 and you can purchase them at Central Community College.

The evening will include speaker Tracy Crow. Tracy is a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and the President and CEO of MilSpeak Foundation, Inc. It is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the creative endeavors of military veterans and their families through writing workshops around the country.

"The event is extremely empowering," said Allen. "It's a very eye opening experience."

The proceeds from Salute to Women Warriors 2018 will go toward the Women Veterans Scholarship at Central Community College. The scholarship is given in honor of Wilma Kellogg, a U.S. Army Veteran, who honorably served her country overseas during WWII and retired from the VA health care system as a registered nurse.
