HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) A Hastings man is in jail after police arrested him Monday night for hitting another man in the head with a brick.
The incident happened about 7:30 Monday night at a home in the 300 block of Walden Circle.
Police say Nick Henry, 57, and Thomas Morran, 26, were arguing about Henry's 11-year-old granddaughter. Morran is the girl's stepfather.
Police say during the argument Morran took the girl into the home's garage and shortly thereafter Henry came into the garage armed with a brick and began repeatedly striking Morran in the head.
By the time police arrived Henry had locked himself in an upstairs room and was armed with a Bowie knife. Witnesses told police that Henry had threatened to harm police if they attempted to arrest him.
Police said there was a short stand-off, but Henry eventually went outside the house. Police shot a taser at Henry, but since he was wearing a heavy coat, the taser did not completely subdue Henry. Police were, however, able to subdue Henry and took him to jail.
Morran was treated and released at Mary Lanning hospital for head injuries.
Henry was arrested for second degree assault, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and with being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon.
Henry had previous felony convictions for child abuse.
