HASTINGS, Neb (KSNB) - It may be hard to believe, but it's not too soon to be thinking about back to school supplies. It is definitely on the minds of officials at the Hastings Salvation Army.
Major Dale Brandenburg says people in need can start applying now to receive school supplies before the new school year begins. Brandenburg says they are not providing backpacks this year, rather they will emphasize supplying more supplies than ever in an easy to use zip lock bag.
In addition, the Salvation Army is teaming with the First Presbyterian Church to Hastings to provide haircuts for kids as they return to school. Appointments will made to get both supplies and haircuts on the same day.
"We're sending them off with a fresh haircut and a year's worth of school supplies," said Brandenburg.
The Major adds that supplies or donations can be made to assist. A partnership with Shoe Sensation in Hastings is also seeing them offer customers who donate school supplies a discount on their purchases.
Brandenburg says they will provided schools supplies for students from kindergarten through high school.
