HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Bringing the problem of domestic abuse into the light to be discussed openly is the goal of agencies observing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
SASA of Hastings is using the month to hold two special events. They are encouraging everyone to wear a purple ribbon throughout the month, but particularly October 19, which has been dubbed National Purple Thursday.
On October 27, they will hold the Light the Way March. Community Outreach Advocate Brittany Rees, appearing on NBC Nebraska Midday, said they will march on Burlington Avenue to help raise awareness.
Rees said it is good that the issue of domestic abuse is being discussed. "You can't attack an issue unless you know it exists," said Rees.
