Trial delayed for man accused of killing six in Interstate 80 crash

OGALLALA, Neb. (KNOP) - Tony Weekly will now have a jury trial in March 2018. The judge delayed December's trail against the man accused of killing six people in an Interstate 80 accident near Ogallala in 2016.

The man accused of killing six people in an Interstate 80 accident a year ago near Ogallala did not show up for court Friday.

Tony Weekly's attorney, Gary Krajewski, told the Keith County District Court Judge that Weekly lives a long way away and can't be expected to be there.

The Keith County Attorney, Randy Fair, objected, saying his absence was not approved.

Tony Weekly is scheduled to be in court August 22 for a status hearing. Weekly's attorney guaranteed his client would be there.

The 54-year-old truck driver is from Baker, Florida. Officials say Weekly was a distracted truck driver who rear-ended a minivan at high speed.

The impact killed six people in a multiple vehicle crash on I-80 In Keith County on July 31, 2016.

Five members of a Minnesota family and a man from Denver died in the accident. The family is suing Weekly for damages over the fatal accident.
