TRI-CITIES, Neb. -- Despite cold temperatures expected over the weekend, we're still "Working for the Weekend" with plenty of fun things to check out.

What: The Nutcracker Sweet Shoppe
When: Saturday, December 17 from 9-11 A.M.
Where: First United Methodist Church, 7th & Hastings Ave
Details: Let the Sugar Plum Fairies do your Christmas Cookie, Candy and Bread Making.

What: Family Outdoor Club
When: Saturday, December 17 from 10-11:30 A.M.
Where: Prairie Loft Center, 4705 Dld Rd
Details: Activities are geared toward kids ages 2-8 with their grownups
Cost: $5 per family (suggested donation). The Prairie Loft Family Outdoor Club happens the third Saturday of every month, 10-11:30am, year-round. Each month's theme-based program includes active outdoor exploration, art activities, take-home projects, and more. Dress for the weather and please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. No need to RSVP. What: Live Nativity
When: Friday through Saturday, December 16-18 from 5:30-8:30 P.M.
Where: Timberlake Ranch Camps, Inc., 2709 North "S" Road, Marquette, NE
Details: Join us as we celebrate the incredible birth of Jesus Christ. Enjoy the night as we bring the Nativity story to life with animals, actors and refreshments. This event if free to the general public.

What: "Wreaths Across America"
When: Saturday, December 17 starting at 11 A.M.
Where: All Faiths Chapel, GI Veterans Home
Details: Grand Island-The All Faiths Chapel at the Grand Island Veterans Home will be the site of a "Wreaths Across America" Ceremony on Saturday, December 17th at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend this ceremony, with parking available in the front drive or in the north parking lot. The Patriot Guard Riders are sponsoring this event, which coincides with ceremonies that are taking place at the same time across the country. Richard Catron, Grand Island V.F.W. 1347 Post Commander, will be the keynote speaker. Members of the Armed Forces will place remembrance wreaths for each branch of the military, as well as one for our POW/MIA's and KIA's. The Grand Island Senior High School Air Force JRTOC will be Posting and Retiring the Colors for the ceremony.

What: WellCare of Nebraska Hosts Gift - Wrapping Events
When: Friday, December 16 from 4-6 P.M., Saturday, December 17 from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M.
Where: WellCare of Nebraska Welcome Room, 2714 2nd Ave Suite A, Kearney, NE
Details: Residents in Kearney have a chance to take the expense and the clutter out of this holiday season by bringing their gifts a WellCare of Nebraska Welcome Rooms. Rooms will have wrapping supplies and stations available for all to use.

What: "Gloves for Wheelchair Veterans"
When: All month long
Where: North of Gateway Motors in Broken Bow, NE at 128 Industrial Dr.
Details: The Broken Bow Elks Lodge #1688 is collecting deer hides through the end of December for Veterans. These hides are shipped to a Tannery and then distributed to Veterans to make billfolds, belts, and gloves for Vets confined to wheel chairs for hand protection. There is a drop off point for the hides north of Gateway Motors on the south side of Industrial Drive. There are no expenses for our Veterans for any part of this project. Our Veterans responded willingly to our call, now it is only fitting that we respond to their needs.
