Local Kids Get a Taste of the Business World

KEARNEY, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska, Kearney, offered its Biz Kidz Entrepreneurship camp for the fourth year. The week long camp teaches kids ages 10 to 14 all about starting their own business and learning the ins and out on how to run a business.

On the last day of camp on Thursday, the kids got the chance to sell the products they worked on during camp. They set up shop at the Hy-Vee located in Kearney selling everything from candles, origami to baked goods.

The class is taught by Janita Pavelka who is a youth entrepreneurship educator.

"This is a great age 10 to 14, this middle school age because they are very creative and they have lots of ideas. They are not scared to think about oh my goodness what if I fail or oh my goodness what will my peers think of me. They are just like yeah this is great I can do this," said Pavelka as she helped the kids prepare for the big day.

The kids get to keep any money they earn from selling their products but the camp does encourage them to donate 10 percent of their proceeds to charity.
