Abandoned buildings catch on fire in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Neb. (KNEP) - Fire departments were called to the scene of a structure fire in Bridgeport Tuesday afternoon shortly after 2:30 p.m.

According to Assistant Chief Boni Golden from the Bridgeport Fire District, twp abandoned buildings caught on fire. A couple surrounding trees also caught on fire, but crews were able to contain the blaze.

It took a couple of hours to fight the fire and a nearby mobile home received heat damage, but no one was injured.

Bayard Rural Fire, Dalton Volunteer Fire Department, Gurley Fire Department, Bayard Rural Fire, Broadwater Rural Fire and Bridgeport Rural Fire responded to the scene.

Gorden says a fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. The Assistant Chief says the area was still smoldering and could remain for a couple of days.
