Hastings man killed in pickup-train accident NW of Hastings Thursday morning

NEAR HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - One person is dead after a Thursday morning pickup-train accident just northwest of Hastings.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Mark Zimmerman, 62, of Hastings.

Adams County sheriff's officials say the accident happened at the Union Pacific crossing at Osage Road about three miles northwest of Hastings.

The sheriff's office said a west-bound train struck a northbound pickup driven by Zimmerman, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirm a dog was also killed in the crash.

It happened about 10:12 a.m. Thursday.

Union Pacific spokesperson Kristen South told Local4 that the train was traveling from Kansas City to Oregon at the time of the crash. It was carrying various types of cargo. The train did not derail and there were no spills of any kind.
