Sodbusters split doubleheader with Pioneers

The Hastings Sodbusters got their first win of the season downing the Western Nebraska Pioneers in Game 1 of their doubleheader, 6-3.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings Sodbusters got their first win of the season downing the Western Nebraska Pioneers in Game 1 of their doubleheader, 6-3.

In Game 1, Ryan McDonald paced the offense with his 2-RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. The hit gave the Sodbusters a 3-0 lead. The Pioneers would close the gap in the fifth and sixth innings adding 3-runs but Jay Alaverez got the save in the seventh inning to give Hastings the win.

Game 2 went back and forth but Western Nebraska used a 5-run fourth inning to bust the game open. Sodbusters fell, 11-4. Tayten Treadaway led the Sodbusters offense going 3-3 with 2-RBI.

Sodbusters are now 1-4 on the season. They are off tomorrow before traveling to Fremont for the start of an eight game road trip on July 1.
