Hastings takes two from Grand Island
The Chiefs take down Home Federal 4-3, 2-0
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Tri-City rivalry took place Tuesday night in Grand Island, as Home Federal welcomed in Hastings Five Points Bank.
In game one, the Home Feds jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Jay Gustafson’s solo home run in the first inning.
The score would remain 1-0 until the fourth inning, when Laif Hultine tied things up with an RBI single to left. Hastings would add another run in the frame and tack on a third run in the fifth inning on a Mike Boeve RBI ground out.
In the bottom of the sixth the bats came back to life for Grand Island. With two outs Rans Sanders hit a double in the gap in left center. Carson Cahoy would follow that up with a two-run home run to knot things up at three.
In the top of the seventh inning, Jake Shaw ripped a lead off double. Gabe Conant then came through with the clutch single to shallow center to give Hastings the lead.
Conant was on the mound in the bottom of the inning and set the Home Feds down in order to give Hastings the 4-3 win.
The Chiefs would then go on to finish the sweep with a 2-0 win in game two.
