HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - With annual firework shows cancelled in Hastings, Jerry Spady Chevrolet filled the void by holding a 4th of July celebration.

There was live entertainment, food vendors and inflatable houses. All the festivities were followed by a firework show right outside the dealership.

“The Fourth of July is the Fourth of July. It’s one of my favorite holidays. We wanted to give back to the community,” Jerry Spady Chevrolet owner, Greg Spady said.

For residents in the community it meant a lot to have the event when so many were cancelled in Central Nebraska.

“We came out to just have time with family. We haven’t really been going anywhere because of the COVID. So, this is really the first time we’ve been out to do anything,” Hastings resident Amanda Johnson said.

Spady said with one celebration down they are already thinking about next summer.

“There’s not really a first annual but this is our first annual because there will be a second annual,” Spady said. “We’re planning on, already working on next year and we’re going to try to pull this off every single year.”

Spady said the South Heartland Health District approved the event. Staff sprayed down the inflatable houses every 30 minutes. Limiting the amount of kids who were allowed in at a time. They had sanitation stations throughout and people were asked to stay six feet away from each other. Masks were encouraged but not required to attend.
