Grand Island man arrested on kidnapping charges out of Kansas
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A man with serious out-of-state charges was taken into custody in Grand Island Tuesday night.
According to Grand Island Police, the arrest happened just before midnight in the 800 block of South Locust Street.
Police said Leongrys Castellanos Mesa, 35, of Grand Island was inside the home.
Police believed he may have been armed so they brought in the tactical team to remove him from the home. Castellanos Mesa was arrested without incident after initially refusing to come out of the home.
He’s being held in the Hall County jail.
A Kansas arrest warrant for Castellanos Mesa listed numerous charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, stalking and domestic violence.
The Arkansas City, Kansas, police department reported an attempted kidnapping Monday.
They responded to a report of a disturbance in a vehicle in Arkansas City. A little before 4:40 p.m. an emergency call reported a woman was injured and out of a vehicle.
“An officer arrived and learned a 27-year-old Arkansas City woman had been involved in the disturbance, after which a male suspect had fled in the woman’s vehicle,” a news release from the Arkansas City Police Department said.
The injured woman was transported from the scene to a local hospital. Investigators later learned the suspect, Castellanos Mesa, had entered the woman’s van unlawfully and hid until he reportedly attacked her, police said.
Police said the initial incident happened in Ark City and the woman attempted to flee her attacker just north of the city limits.
“She suffered injuries in the attempt, but was successful in reaching safety,” police said. “Castellanos Mesa then allegedly fled the scene in her car.”
Police said the victim knew Castellanos Mesa
Cowley County District Court issued an arrest warrant for Castellanos Mesa on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated burglary of a motor vehicle, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, battery-domestic violence, criminal threat, stalking, and theft.
