Bickford Senior Living is flocking flamingos for Alzheimer’s
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - It’s flocking flamingo season but Bickford Senior Living are the one’s doing the flocking. They are placing fake flamingos around the city to raise money for a cause.
“Every year we try to do some type of event that we can raise money to go toward the Alzheimer’s Association for the Grand Island walk,” said Deborah Quick, community relations director at Bickford.
Bickfords’ are flocking around the country.
“This year, several of our other Bickford branches across the United States are doing the flamingo flocking. We thought it was a fun idea, so we decided to join in. We are so glad we did, because we’ve had such a great reception from it.”
Folks can call Deb at Bickford to participate at (308) 385-8598 or (308) 384-3800. They will place 12 flamingos on your lawn with signs displaying, “You’ve been flocked.” The flamingos are left on the lawn for only 24 hours. After that, people are suggested to donate 25 dollars to flock someone else. If a person is surprised by a flocking and doesn’t want to nominate someone, they can donate 20 dollars to send it back to Bickford. They can also purchase flamingo insurance and donate ten dollars to avoid being flocked again.
Right now, Bickford is already booked for the first two weeks and will do this fundraiser throughout July. The assisted living home hopes to raise 2,000 dollars by the time of the walk. People can also donate to their team here.
The 2020 Alzheimer’s walk is on September 13 at 809 S. Harrison in Grand Island. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m., and the walk begins at 1:45 p.m.
