GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) -

Residents at Bickford Senior Living in Grand Island had the chance to get out of the building for a little bit on Monday.

The Nebraska Trucking Association brought a brand new semi truck by the facility for the seniors to see. With many of the seniors having been or had connections to a truck driver, it was a chance to walk down memory lane.

“They might’ve been stuck inside for quite a while with the pandemic and we just wanted to come outside and help them relive some memories a little bit,” David Zelnio, the Director of Operations and Communications with Nebraska Trucking Organization, told Local4.

Zelnio also said he enjoyed the residents’ reaction to seeing the new truck.

“As the event went on, I kept hearing more and more stories of people whose husbands or their fathers or their kids were truck drivers,” Zelnio said. “It’s amazing because when we started, we didn’t think there were that many connections, but there were a lot of connections.”

Zelnio and other members of the group took turns to talk with the group about the truck’s amenities and the importance of truck drivers, especially during the pandemic.
