Grand Island man arrested for attempted murder
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man was arrested on Friday after a shooting and standoff with GIPD.
The Hall County Sheriff’s office is investigating the case since an officer with the Grand Island police department was involved.
A sheriff’s spokesman said the Grand Island police officer was investigating an assault reported earlier Friday afternoon at the Bosselman’s Truck Center on east highway 30. A clerk reported that a man had become angry and pushed the clear plastic protective shield into her face at the checkout counter.
Police later contacted 32-year-old Tejani Abdalla at his apartment in east Grand Island. Abdalla retreated into his apartment and then came out, firing at least two rounds from a handgun at the police officer. The police fired one shot back. No-one was wounded. The police officer retreated, a tactical team was called in and established a perimeter around the apartment. The sheriff’s office said Abdalla came out of his apartment later, surrendered and was taken to jail. He was booked on Attempted Second Degree Murder and use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony. He was also booked on a misdemeanor assault charge in connection with the incident at the truck center.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating.
