CENTRAL CITY , Neb. (KSNB) - The Merrick County Sheriff is trying to get to the bottom of a strange car wreck.

The sheriff said a deputy was called Sunday to the 1500 block of L Road about 2.5 miles southeast of Central City. The deputy was following up a report that an individual removed a Blazer from the river after a local fundraising event. Then the Blazer was intentionally damaged by a heavy equipment excavator while the driver was inside.

It was reported that there were at least 15 witnesses to the crime. The report was made to the sheriff’s office hours after the incident happened.

So far, the sheriff has gotten only limited witness cooperation..

The sheriff’s office asks that if you have any information, call 308-946-2345, email Sheriff John Westman or write a message on the Merrick County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
