Hastings College football beginning preparations for season
Hastings College football begins preparations for practices beginning on Aug. 15.
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College football team is less than three weeks away from practices starting on Aug. 15. This Tuesday, the Great Plains Athletic Conference announced the fall sports season will go ahead as scheduled, with the football season beginning on Sept. 12.
The NAIA released comprehensive guidelines, teams are recommended to follow when the season starts. Hastings College football coach Tony Harper said with practices so close players need to remain smart.
“We got to remind our guys that we need to start taking care of ourselves if we haven’t all ready,” Harper said. “We need to start preparing, with just being around your family. Approaching this thing the right way with the understanding of everything going on.”
Harper said new rules they are implementing are only positional meetings. They will not have any team meetings due to how large their roster is.
“I think this is a great learning process not only for our guys but us as coaches and generally society in general,” he said. “There’s always somebody who has to put forth protocols and guidelines and expectations. You may or may not agree or disagree with it but that is what it is and we got to move forward and that’s kind of what we’ve been hammering into the guys.”
Broncos open their season at home against Dakota Wesleyan. Kick-off set for 1 p.m.
