Community members support GIPD with loving T-shirts
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - It was all about love at the Grand Island Police Department on Tuesday when dozens showed up outside their building to show support for the officers. The group was full of State Farm Agents who wanted to say thank you for all of their hard work.
The group handed out free T-shirts that said ‘I love GIPD’ to many who were on duty. Now that all the officers are equipped with their new shirts, they will start to sell them to the public. A portion of each shirt sale will be put aside, then donated back to the department for the law enforcement memorial.
The group said it is the least they could do to support and thank who they say keep them safe every day.
“As the good neighbor State Farm agents, we know that without policeman enforcing the laws of Grand Island, there would be no good neighborhood,” said Agent Sean Gellatly. “They’re very vital and that’s why we are here thanking them for doing that service for us.”
GIPD officers said they definitely felt the love and appreciate the support they see every single day.
“The last couple of months there had been a lot of morale issues across the country on the law enforcement side,” Captain Dean Elliott said. ”However we’ve been really fortunate in central Nebraska, rural ag communities, they support their law enforcement very well. We’ve just seen an outpour of support the last couple of months.”
