Minivan destroyed in Hastings fire
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings Fire and Rescue were called out to a vehicle fire on South Street and Burlington Wednesday night.
It happened just after 9 p.m.
Hastings firefighter Trevor Terwey said the driver mentioned she started seeing smoke coming from the dash so she pulled over into an empty parking lot and then the car ignited.
Terwey said when they approached the scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed.
Crews started applying water to the minivan. He said it was so hot at times that metal components of the car was causing small explosions.
HFR was able to get the fire extinguished within 5 to 10 minutes after arriving.
All occupants were out of the vehicle and safe.
The vehicle is a total loss.
