HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - As you think of things to do with your kids during this pandemic, you might want to consider checking out a new Hastings playground.

Crews finished installing a nature-themed playground at Brickyard Park last week, complete with slides and lots of equipment to climb. It replaced an older set built in the 80s.

The design process started in fall 2019. Construction took two weeks.

“We want them to get out and enjoy themselves, and just explore,” said Jeff Hassenstab, director of Hastings Parks & Recreation. “This playground will allow you to use your motor sills, a little bit of creativity. It’s got some musical elements to it. So just get outside and enjoy the fresh air and be active.”

The playground was funded by the half-cent city sales tax and a $15,000 grant from the Little Blue NRD.

It’s part of a larger project for the Parks & Rec Department where one playground is replaced each year. Staff is looking at building an all-inclusive playground next year.
