Hilltop Mall hosts first craft show of 2020
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The pandemic has made this a very difficult year for local business owners, but for the first time in 2020, the Hilltop Mall in Kearney gave some of those business owners the opportunity to show of their work and sell their products.
“It is a blessing to have a craft show that’s actually happening right now,” Owner of My Four Sons Beth Grove said. “With COVID going around it’s slim pickings right now.”
With the amount of shows being cancelled, the interest level was high for small businesses around the state.
“We had an insane amount of applications,” Hilltop Mall Marketing Director Amanda Fitzgerald said. “We actually had to turn down some people so we could make sure they were socially distanced still, but yes everyone was super excited. It wasn’t hard to find any crafters to come in this time.”
From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, vendors showed off and sold merchandise of just about everything you could think of.
Not only are shows like this beneficial for these vendors, but also for the mall itself.
“It feels good to finally start having events again and get people in the mall, all while trying to maintain all of the CDC guidelines and keep everybody as safe as possible,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s very exciting.”
“Not just for the crafters, but for the promoters as well. Some people that promote the shows - this is their income just as well as it is ours,” Grove said. “So it’s very important for people to come out and support.”
The Hilltop Mall hopes to host another craft show this fall or winter.
