Legion players join Hastings Sodbusters
Hastings Sodbusters add local Nebraska Legion players to roster with players reporting to colleges.
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Last week the Nebraska Legion baseball season wrapped up with most teams playing their final games of the season, Grand Island Home Federal and the Hastings Five Points Bank Chiefs among them.
Given the Hastings Sodbusters are losing some of their players because they must report to college, General Manager Scott Galusha has added more local talent to the roster. Mike Boeve, Laif Hultine and Rans Sanders are now part of the team as Hastings enters the few weeks of its season.
“We’re really proud that two teams in the community, generally Grand Island, Hastings guys, not only they were excited to play for us and that’s a big sign,” Galusha said.
Boeve has started in the last four games for the Sodbusters while Hultine started Saturday’s game going 7.0 innings, giving up no runs.
“It definitely happened quick playing here at Duncan the first few games,” Boeve said. “It’s just kind of comforting playing on your home-field.”
“It’s kind of surreal because it happened so fast,” Hultine said. “To come in and think you’re just going to kind of watch for a day and then getting thrown into it and being in the middle of it it’s super exciting. It’s just what you live for so.”
Galusha said the plan to add three more local legion players to the roster by Wednesday.
