GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Fire Department is investigating the cause of a car fire that damaged multiple vehicles Sunday.

The call came in around 6:55 p.m. for a vehicle fire at 420 St. Paul Road.

When the first fire engine arrived, they saw multiple cars were in flames and called for backup. Two engine companies and Battalion Chief Scott Keuhl spent roughly two hours at the scene.

Chief Keuhl told Local4 News that 9 cars from 2 neighboring mechanic shops had damage to them, but there was no structural damage to either building. The total cost of damage is unknown at this time. Nobody was injured.

He called the incident “suspicious in nature” and said an investigation is ongoing.

A section of St. Paul Road was closed as crews worked the scene.
