HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - In what might be the most strenuous observance of 9/11, four off-duty Hastings police officers completed a 9.11 mile ruck march Friday morning.

A post on the Hastings Police department’s Facebook page showed officers Grady Gardner, Edgar Sandoval, Ethan Sharman and James Barron each carrying ruck sacks with approximately 40 lbs of gear.

The officers stopped every mile to complete 53 reps of a chosen exercise including sit-ups, push-ups, mountain climbers and more. The exercises were in honor of the 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers who died at ground zero, one law enforcement officer who died on flight 93 and 55 military personnel who died at the Pentagon.

The four men ran the last mile escorted by on-duty patrol officers.
