Grand Island elementary school goes into brief lockout
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Gates Elementary School in Grand Island entered into its standard lockout response procedure just before Noon Monday. The school entered lockout after a staff member noticed police near the school approaching what was a reported stolen car.
As police closed in on the vehicle, the driver sped off and officers decided not to pursue the vehicle due to the location in town.
Principal Joe Eckerman sent an e-mail to families of the school saying the procedures were only in place for a short time, and the school quickly resumed its normal instructional day. He also confirmed that everyone is safe.
