GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Aksarben Stock Show had their biggest night on Saturday with their Annual Purple Ribbon Auction at Fonner Park.

“The Purple Ribbon Auction is open, anyone from the public can come out, celebrate this, pack the stands, and be socially distanced,” Nebraska State Fair’s Marketing Director Gretchen Kirchman said.

This pinnacle celebration started off with a reception where guests ate, mingled and celebrated the youth’s hard work. Then 33 exhibitors with the best market animals were crowned grand champion. Once the winners were chosen, the exhibitors’ animals were auctioned off for a partial scholarship and cash prize.

“They get 50% retained, and when they decide to go on for higher education anywhere they choose, they get to redeem that through the Aksarben Foundation, and the other part they get is 50% cash,” Kirchman said.

Arksarben isn’t over just yet, they return Sunday with their breeding shows. They also have food vendors and trade shows going on as well.
