Wind whips up grass fire near Boelus
NEAR BOELUS, Neb. (KSNB) - Central Nebraska firefighters worked to control a grass fire Wednesday afternoon near Boelus.
Several volunteer fire departments, including Dannebrog, Boelus, Cairo, Alda and Wood River, were called to the scene near the Howard-Sherman county line around 2 p.m. Officials believe it restarted after an equipment fire Tuesday night. High winds and low humidity were factors in the spread of the fire. Video from the scene showed blackened pastures where grass had burned in a hilly part of the area.
No injuries had been reported as of late Wednesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service Wednesday morning had issued a fire danger advisory scheduled to last into Wednesday evening.
