GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A state trooper arrested a 17-year-old boy Thursday morning after chasing the car he was driving at speeds up to 130 miles on Interstate 80.

The State Patrol said a trooper clocked an eastbound Hyundai Genesis traveling at 111 miles per hour on Interstate 80 about seven miles east of Grand Island just after midnight Thursday morning. The Hyundai stopped on the shoulder, then moved forward and stopped multiple times before accelerating and fleeing from the trooper.

The trooper took chase as the Hyundai continued east at up to 130 mph. The vehicle turned off the interstate at the Giltner exit and continued south on the blacktop 41B spur.

The vehicle stopped after about two miles and three passengers got out. The vehicle continued south, but came to a stop a few minutes later. The trooper arrested the 17-year-old boy for felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana – less than one ounce, no operator’s license, no valid registration, and several traffic violations, as well as an active warrant from Adams County. The driver was turned over to a probation officer.

Another trooper apprehended the three passengers, all juveniles and all three were cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. They were released to their parents.

The State Patrol said the entire pursuit lasted approximately seven minutes.
