HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Adams Central is back in the Class C-1 semifinals after taking down top-seed Ashland-Greenwood on the road, 35-6. In 2019, the Patriots fell to Pierce at home in a game where they started off slow and could never catch up.

This season, Adams Central was not expected to get back to this point after graduating a talented senior class.

“We knew we had good talent coming back that could play at a high level this year," Adams Central football coach Shawn Mulligan said. "Last year, the semifinal game at home didn’t quite go our way and we’re hoping to change that around this year.”

Now with a shot in the semifinals again the team is using their experience last year as a learning curve heading into this year’s game.

“I think the thing we took away from last year is the preparation factor," Adams Central quarterback Cam Foster said. "I think this whole week we’ve been more prepared than we were last year because we knew it was a big reason why we took that loss.”

The Patriots host fourth-seed Kearney Catholic, a team they lost to earlier this season, 33-22. In their Week 7 match-up, the Stars rushed for 267 yards and three touchdowns, while the Patriots struggled out of the gate.

Heading into this game, Coach Mulligan said coming out quickly is a key for his team.

“Momentum, effort, performance just continue to build off each other," Mulligan said. "Football is a game of inches and if you do very well early on it can continue to be successful for you throughout the game.”

“A lot of our wins, we’ve started out early scoring 14, 21 points right away," Foster said. "I think that’s the key to success for us. One of things we need to work on is keep it going, don’t let up.”

This is the fourth time the Patriots are in the semifinals since 2011. They have not been to Memorial Stadium since finishing in runner-up in Class B in 1993.

Adams Central and Kearney Catholic kick-off at 7 p.m. from Patriot Field tomorrow night, Nov. 13.
