HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - For the first time since 1993, Adams Central is heading to a State Football Championship. The eighth-seeded Patriots downed fourth-seeded Kearney Catholic at Patriots Field Friday night, 34-29.

It was their fourth time playing in a semifinal game since 2011 and Shawn Mulligan’s fifth time coaching in the final four.

“I’m just so happy for the players, for the school, the community," Mulligan said. "We have a very proud tradition here at Adams Central. To finally get to the championship game it’s very, very rewarding.”

“It’s crazy honestly," Adams Central senior Tyler Slechta said. "It’s been a dream forever and it’s going to be an awesome experience. We don’t just want to go there we have a goal. We got to play really strong. We got to prepare really well and it’s going to be a great one. We can’t wait.”

The NSAA changed the dates and venues for the football championships. The Patriots will travel to face second-seed Pierce next Friday, Nov. 20. Times have yet to be decided.
