Five Star Performer - Tyler Slechta
Tyler Slechta scores two touchdowns and has two interceptions in Class C-1 semifinals
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Adams Central football took down Kearney Catholic in the Class C-1 semifinals, 34-29. It was the first win in the semifinals for the Patriots since 1993.
A big reason for the win was senior wide receiver/defensive back Tyler Slechta, who had 87 receiving yards, 2 TD and two interceptions.
“It was just a ton of energy,” Slechta said. “It was a little bit of revenge. Not only did we lose earlier to them in the regular season but we got murdered in the semifinals last year so I did not want that to happen again. I wanted to come out victorious in a semifinal. Luckily that was what we were able to do.”
Head coach Shawn Mulligan knows Slechta well as he has played for the Patriots the last four years.
“It’s always bittersweet when guys like that in your program, that you spend so much time with over a period of time,” Mulligan said. “You know Friday night is your last game with them too but you miss them but you’re happy for their success. But then a new group comes in.”
Before this week, there was always another game. Now for Slechta and the rest of the seniors no matter what happens Friday is the end of the road.
“All I know is I got to leave it all out on the field because it’s being left on the field,” Slechta said. “Truly there is nothing after. There’s nothing. Saturday morning, I’m going to wake up and I’m going to be done with Adams Central football. So, I’m going to do everything I can. Leave my heart out on the field and fight every single play.”
Patriots travel to face Pierce in the Class C-1 championship game this Friday, Nov. 20. Kick-off is at 5:30 p.m.
