ORD, Neb. (KSNB) - It has been another very special season for the Ord Chanticleers.

In 2018, Ord made the C1 State Championship game for the first time in school history, falling to Aurora 49-7.

After falling in the quarterfinals a season ago, the Chanticleers went back down to C2 this season.

It’s safe to say C2 really wishes they hadn’t.

The Chanticleers have made it back to the State Championship game once again, this time with a perfect 11-0 record.

“They’ve just done a tremendous job in all areas. We have a great group of senior leaders and I’m just really proud of them. I’m proud of our whole team - our team is kind of just the definition of a team,” Ord Football Coach Nate Wells said. “They all care about each other and they all put forth that effort in all areas of their life.”

Getting a taste of all that success in 2018 really laid the ground work for the program, and pushed them to get back to the big game.

“I think being in a game like that, or even just having a season like that, just kind of changed our program around,” Wells said. “It’s led to us having a tremendous culture here and a tremendous group of kids that understand that everything you do has to be earned, and they work extremely hard for it.”

“My class was a sophomore class that year,” Senior Lineman Riley Setlik said. “It kind of put a fire in us, and everyone was working hard because we all knew what we could do.”

Making it to the championship isn’t enough for the Chanticleers this year. They’re ready to finish the job, and bring back that first place trophy to a community that has backed them all the way.

“With the pandemic and all, it’s been kind of a negative year I guess,” Setlik said. “So if we bring a championship back we can make 2020 pretty great I guess.”

It will be a battle of the unbeaten Friday, as second seeded Ord will travel to top seeded Archbishop Bergan (11-0). The game is set to kickoff in Fremont at 3:15 p.m.

We will have all the highlights right here on Local 4.
