Wood River teen indicted on federal drug and weapons charges
Also faces trial as accessory to 2019 Grand Island murder
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A teenager who was already connected to a Grand Island murder case has also been indicted for drug investigations done over the last two years.
The U.S. Attorney announced Monday that Ernesto Guerrero Zarraga, 19, Wood River, was indicted for five crimes including possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine on May 1, 2019. He was indicted for four more crimes stemming from an August 22, 2020, incident including possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Convictions on those charges carry heavy federal prison sentences including up to life in prison.
Guerrero-Zarraga is also charged with accessory to a felony in connection with the April 2019 shooting death of Vincent Arrellano of Grand Island. He is scheduled to go on trial in January for that crime. Police said Guerrero was originally picked up for flight to avoid arrest in connection to a weapons incident at the north Walmart in Grand Island where he allegedly pointed a gun at a victim.
Police said witnesses put Guerrero at the scene of the Arellano murder involving the get-away car.
Arek Friedricksen, 17, is serving a prison sentence for second degree murder in the Arrellano case.
