GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Jessica Niedfelt and her family have two reasons to celebrate on the last Thursday of November. The first reason is obvious: Thanksgiving Day. The second is slightly less obvious but much more special: the anniversary of bringing her three sons into her home.

Jessica adopted Devin, Korey and Chandler on Thanksgiving Day of 2019 after fostering the boys for 13 months prior. Initially she had no plans to adopt, however once her time with the boys was up and Jessica heard the boys, all full siblings, were going to be split up, she decided to make it official and keep them all together and bring them into her home for good.

“It’s amazing how much people have just surrounded my kids and made their lives better,” Niedfelt said. “Everyone around me has loved these kids.”

Devin and Chandler are autistic, Devin being nonverbal, and Jessica admits it wasn’t easy in the beginning but that seeing the love and support from her family, the boys’ daycare and everyone around them has been a blessing.

Jessica is now a large proponent of fostering and believes anyone who thinks they may be able to be a supporting role as a foster parent should take the classes and look into it.

“This might not be forever but it’s something worth taking the risk to change a life and a child,” Niedfelt said.

As Jessica and her family gathers on Thanksgiving for years to come they will always have three more reasons to be thankful.
