KENESAW, Neb. (KSNB) - It is Small Business Saturday and this year it has been emphasized that it is more important than ever to shop locally. Some shops in the smaller towns have gained extra attention.

For the Kenesaw Floral & Gifts, they bring the small town charm and connection with their customers.

“I recognize a lot of faces so that’s really nice but especially shopping for the holidays it’s nice to see who they’re shopping for to help them find that gift,” Owner Makayla Alloway said.

Alloway took over the business a year ago. She said they have had some slow days but through the pandemic people have continued to show their support. On Small Business Saturday she has had more customers than usual coming from Hastings and Grand Island. Many of them have found the store through word of mouth or on social media.

“They’ve been coming here which is really nice because it’s a little bit more quiet, we are able to social distance, and we haven’t had a large amount of traffic,” Alloway said.

She keeps the store fresh with new products cycling through each week. everything for sale is from Nebraska and South Dakota vendors and the flower delivery service covers the surrounding cities.

“We want it to be a small business supporting other small businesses,” Alloway said. “So we have 12 vendors in here so we’re helping them create their small business while they’re helping our business thrive during a pandemic of course.”

She said it means a lot that people make the drive to Kenesaw to support a local business and she’s excited to find that unique gift people can’t find anywhere else. Alloway said if people are nervous about in-person shopping they can call about any items they want or set up an appointment to shop before the store opens to the public.
