HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Shooters shoot. It is cliche but it applied to Hastings senior Gabe Garcia last week.

He shot 10-for-18 from three, four of which were in the fourth quarter against Crete last Friday night.

The Tigers led the Cardinals 39-37 in the fourth quarter when he sparked a 13-3 run, which included three 3-pointers from Garcia. Needless to say, he was confident in his shot.

“Just give me the ball again,” Garcia said. “I’ll shoot it more honestly. I could have shot it more.”

On top of having confidence, head coach Drew Danielson has confidence in what Garcia brings to the team.

“High energy,” Danielson said. “Somebody I know when I put him in I’m going to get everything he’s got. He can shoot the rock.”

Garcia did not play his junior year and even questioned whether or not to play this winter.

“I didn’t really expect to play this year but I talked to Coach Danielson and he talked to me. He really got me back into it,” he said.

From almost not trying out to now leading the team with 32 points in two games. Garcia is not only motivated to prove himself but prove the Tigers can compete after losing all their starters from a year ago.

“Those first two games I definitely wanted to prove, no returning starters, doesn’t mean anything,” Garcia said. “Just a new basketball team ready to win games.”

The Tigers are 2-0 and Garcia is a big reason why. A long season still awaits but if one thing is for certain, Garcia is going to keep shooting his shot.
