KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Kearney High football team entered the Class A playoffs as the ninth seed with a record of 2-4. In an up and down season, where the team had to quarantine for two weeks, the Bearcats showed up when the games mattered most.

They made it the Class A semifinals. In route, they took down top-seed and defending state champs, Bellevue West. The Thunderbirds entered the quarterfinals on a 19-game win streak, with their last loss coming on Nov. 9, 2018.

Kearney ended that streak beating Bellevue West on the road in overtime, 41-40. Alex Schall scored the game winner on a two-point conversion to seal the upset in dramatic fashion.

The Bearcats’ season came to an end against Elkhorn South in the next round but it did not take anything away from what the team showed in their run to the Class A semifinals.
