2020 Female Athlete of the Year: Katy Lindner
Katy Lindner dominates on the basketball and volleyball courts
PLEASANTON, Neb. (KSNB) - It was a dominant year for Pleasanton Bulldog Katy Lindner on the basketball and volleyball courts. Lindner was one of the leaders on both Bulldogs teams who went unbeaten in route to state titles.
In March, the Bulldog girls basketball team went 28-0 capturing the Class D-1 state title as the three-seed. Lindner averaged 8.4 PPG and 6.5 RPG that season.
This fall, she shined on the volleyball courts leading Pleasanton with 412 kills and 65 blocks. The Bulldogs went 33-0 not losing a set at the State Tournament to capture their first state volleyball title since 1976.
“First week of practices I can remember talking to the other coaches and thinking, ‘Gosh, where do we go? We’re so good right now,’” Pleasanton volleyball coach Shane Nordby said. “They didn’t disappoint. They elevated their game just about every week out and got better and better as the season wore on.”
“I think that in the whole State Tournament this year we’ve been playing our best ball,” Lindner said. “[Championship game] especially that was our best game all season. Just coming out on top that’s something everyone dreams of and we got it done.”
Lindner is in the midst of her last basketball season at Pleasanton. Currently, the team is 9-0 and is the top-ranked team in Class D-1 returning the majority of its starters from its championship team.
As for whats next, Lindner is committed to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska-Kearney this fall.
