The overall benefit to a workout program
YMCA programs hope to be a catalyst for change in New Year plans
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - With every new year comes a new set of goals or resolutions for many individuals and one common one is a set of fitness goals.
The YMCA in Grand Island is hoping its programs and classes can help in the process of people going on their fitness journey, whether just beginning, restarting, or continuing.
“Everyone always looks at the New Year like a new year, new you where you may have some of those resolutions to get healthier, develop your personal fitness or personal wellness,” YMCA CEO Cara Lemburg said. “It’s just a good starting point with the rollover of the new year.”
One of the classes the YMCA offers is a yoga class, which is taught in person but has a virtual component to it, allowing people to be in the class without physically being in the class.
“It’s your physical, your emotional and the social aspect of still connecting to all these people and our friends and staying safe for the people who are choosing to stay home,” Deb Suganuma, one of the yoga instructors, said.
With a new fitness plan in mind its important to remember that there are mental and social benefits to a fitness journey as well, all of which can be beneficial.
Lumberg says one crucial thing to keep in mind is that its typically better to set small, attainable goals at first so you can see the rewards and progress and not beat yourself up if you don’t reach every goal you set.
