Friday morning fire causes 50-thousand dollars in damage

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Fire Department was called to a detached-garage fire at 2328 Sherman Boulevard shortly after 5 a.m. Friday morning which caused heavy damage to two vehicles and the contents inside the garage.

The two vehicles inside the garage and everything else inside the structure is an estimated damage cost of $50 thousand, while the structure itself is an estimated damage cost of $8 thousand.

Batallion Chief Bryan Stutzman said when they arrived there was smoke and flames coming from the garage, set slightly back from the home. The department had the fire under control within about five minutes.

One of the homeowners got up to let the dog out, noticed the fire and put a call into the fire department. One man tried putting out the fire himself and sustained burn injuries and trauma-related injuries and was transported to CHI Health St. Francis.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
