KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - If you are receiving mail, emails or phone calls asking you for money for the Kearney Police Department, they say it’s not them.

KPD said residents have reported receiving a mailing seeking body armor for the department. The department said it’s a scam and that they are not affiliated with the organizations nor do they receive equipment from them.

This is the same organization which calls themselves the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association, based out of Wichita, Kansas.

Kearney Police warned residents about them back in early November when a similar scam was circulating.

If you would like to know more information about the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association, please contact the Federal Trade Commission’s website at ftc.gov, or Charity Navigator at charitynavigator.org

If you feel that you are a victim of a scam or fraud, please contact the Kearney Police Department at 308-237-2104.
