Start Over Rover cleaning up after part of ceiling collapses
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Start Over Rover is cleaning up after part of their ceiling collapsed Thursday night. Volunteers arrived at 8 a.m. Friday morning and found the ceiling rubble in their big dog pen. There was one dog in the kennel below but he was not injured.
“Unfortunately they can’t do a whole lot because everything is so slick,” Co-Founder Anne Halbert said. “They say with these freezing temperatures it creates an ice dam and the cold. So we’re going to have to wait for things to dry out. They are going to go up and seal the roof later this afternoon and get the snow off.”
The shelter is now asking the community for any donations they can spare to fix the ceiling. They run solely on donations and have had a lot of extra medical costs for recent rescues. Start Over Rover has had a very busy week with weather-related calls for animal rescues across the state.
“After the holidays we really don’t love doing posts where we ask for donations but working strictly off donations, things like this when they come up especially at a time because of the cold we are already stressed with our resources...it just gets to be a lot extra,” Halbert said.
They thank anyone who can offer to help them with the needed repairs.
“We are very fortunate because I know we have seen responses immediately,” Halbert said. “Lots of wonderful people donated and I can tell you honestly with the week everybody’s had down here those donations make everything seem okay.”
