The Kensington thanks COVID-19 heroes
Assisted living facility hosts drive-thru breakfast
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Kensington in downtown Hastings held a free, drive-thru breakfast Thursday morning to say “thanks” to those who have been instrumental in helping the community through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The drive-thru breakfast is one of the many events The Kensington has held throughout the pandemic. The staff is consistently trying to find ways to involve itself with the community and show its appreciation for prioritizing the assisted living facility as a Hastings staple.
The breakfast was free and was a chance for EMT’s, healthcare workers, teachers, veterans and community members to drive up and safely be handed a hot breakfast.
“This last year has been trying, we are getting used to a new normal, obviously,” The Kensington Executive Director Jessica Soucie said. “Just the stress of seeing what we’re all seeing firsthand, they see it way more than what we do.”
Residents of The Kensington have been unaffected by COVID up to this point, something Soucie and the staff is grateful for. She said it wouldn’t be possible without the help of healthcare workers in our area, which was one of the driving forces behind hosting the drive-thru breakfast.
“The first responders, we know that they’re dealing with extra stress day in and day out,” Soucie said, hoping the breakfast would be a gesture others could support and appreciate.
