York can’t keep pace in fourth quarter, fall in Class B semifinals

LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) - In the closing seconds of the third quarter, Brianna Stai banked in a three at the buzzer to give Norris a 30-29 lead over York. The Dukes would not be able to keep pace in the final eight minutes, as the Titans ended the game on a 13-6 run to advance to the Class B final, 43-36.

“It’s tough right now, you lose this game - it’s heartbreaking,” York girls basketball coach Matt Kern said. “But the joy that we’re giving people and the joy that these families have had to be a part of this is pretty awesome. It was a great journey, a great season. It’s easy to focus on this negative right now but there was so many positives this year and we’re very grateful.”

York was led by junior Masa Scheierman and senior Maddie Portwine who had 13 and 12 points, respectively. The game ends an great prep career for Portwine who will continue her basketball career at Fort Hays State.

The Dukes end their season with a record of 21-4.
