Auburn wins third straight state title, 62nd game in a row
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Auburn was able to dictate the pace from the tip, and the Patriots could never find their groove, as the Bulldogs win their third straight state title 41-33. The win was Auburn’s 62nd in a row. Adams Central (26-3) finishes as the Class C1 State Runner-up for the second time in school history.
“These guys are my best friends. We’ve been through so much together in sports, in school, in life,” Adams Central senior Cam Foster said. “Just to be here with them means everything.”
“We have so many memories and we’ve spent so much time together,” Adams Central senior Tyler Slechta said. “It’s honestly been an amazing journey so really I love every one of those guys.”
“We are so blessed as coaches to get to go to work with these guys every year. I mean they went 52 and 5 the last two years,” Adams Central Boys Basketball Coach Zac Foster said. “They did some phenomenal things and we’re so lucky to be around these guys.”
Auburn held Adams Central to just six first half points, leading 12-6 at the break. Adams Central cut the deficit to two in the third quarter before Auburn went on a 13-3 run. The Patriots would battle back again late in the game, cutting the deficit to three with a minute to go. However, the Bulldogs started knocking down their free throws and put it away.
